What are dental veneers?

What are dental veneers?

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth, very much as a false finger nail fits over a nail on the end of your finger.

Veneers seem to give an ideal shape and position of teeth and can even be used to close small gaps between natural teeth.

Veneers make teeth look natural and healthy, and because they are very thin and held in place by strong dental cement, very little tooth preparation is necessary.

Our Porcelain Veneers Procedure

1: The 1st visit for the veneer impression

After picking you up at the airport, our English-speaking dentist, Dr. Marek Salka will make a first examination / consultation. In this painless procedure, Dr. Marek will prepare your teeth for the veneers and then make an impression of the existing tooth/teeth. This impression will be used as the prototype for the new veneer, you’ll choose an tooth veneer shade and then we’ll fit you with temporary veneers while your permanent veneers are being prepared so that no one will notice that you’re having your dental treatment done, and so that you can function normally.

2: The 2nd visit to attach the permanent veneer

The veneer is securely fitted with dental bonding solution and the result is a new tooth that should blend in perfectly with the others. A true Hollywood smile!

Are Porcelain Veneers abroad for you?

In general, veneers can be used in a great variety of situations with almost no complications and immediate results. The major advantage of dental veneer is treatment time and cost. In just one or two visits to the clinic you can have a Hollywood smile!

However veneers cannot alter the overall health of your teeth at all, and should be used for cosmetic reasons only. Although they are very thin, our veneers can endure the same wear and tear as your teeth for many years to come.

Why have my dental veneers abroad?

It’s not only cheaper, (about 50-70 % off UK dental prices) it’s also much quicker (one visit of 4 working days or just 2 overnight visits needed as opposed to many multiple visits). You can have access to one of Europe’s leading cosmetic dentists, and have a solid guarantee that if the veneer should crack or chip within the next 5 years, it will be replaced free of charge. Read more here about the reasons behind having your porcelain veneers done abroad.

What are the typical costs involved with having ceramic veneers abroad?

We have no hidden or extra costs, airport transfer, digital x-rays, temporary crowns, dental work, expert consultation sessions, cups of tea and smiles all included. However, apart from your accommodation costs (around £30 per night) and cheap flight costs to Bratislava from the UK, you can expect to pay just £397 per tooth for full ceramic veneers, the same as used on Hollywood stars.

What is the typical experience of veneer patients visiting us from the UK?

We treatment 100’s of dental veneer cases with UK patients each year, and thankfully may of them are willing to share with our perspective patients their very own “veneer makeover story”. You can watch some of these dental patient videos and read their tooth veneer experiences here.

  1. Hello, I currently have a ceramic fixed brace on my upper teeth to straighten them up. However, I have a tooth missing on the upper left towards the back so the centreline is slightly shifted to the left. From the right they look fine but from the left they look slightly strange. Would veneers be able to fix this and how many teeth would need veneers for them to look natural. I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

  2. Hi Katie,
I’d have to see you in person or at least see a photograph of your teeth so that I could determine whether veneers or crowns or a mix would be the best option and how many of them would be needed to bring symetrical balance back to your smile, however it’s certainly possible. Please use the contact form on our website to send a photo for consideration.

    Sincerely,

    Daniel

  3. Hi my teeth are in good condition but ever since I was little I’ve had white spots on my front teeth. I think they are called calcium deposits. What would you recommend I have done? Thank you

    • Dear Tara,
Have you visited a professional dental hygienist? I would have one take a look and possibly use a technique called “airflow” to remove the deposits if possible…
      I hope that helps…

    • Dear Etemad, the cost is £297 per tooth, these veneers are handmade from the highest quality emax or vita porcelain by our on-site dental laboratory, fully guaranteed for 5 years.
A full dental implant (implant screw, abutment and crown) is £891. For a dental implant you’d need to make 2 one day visits to us with 3 months between the visits. The veneers can also be done one these visits.
      I hope that helps…

  5. I was wondering if there was a way to determine how many veneers I would need prior to actually booking the procedure, or is it down to the patient to choose?
I personally would like them on my top 8 front teeth but I’m unsure if this would be enough.

Would you recommend getting a UK consultation to see what they say first?

    • Dear Lindy,
Certainly it’sup to you, however typically, 4-8 crowns / veneers across the top teeth are all that is needed to create a new bright symmetric smile. A good way to check is by smiling in front of the mirror, and checking how many unsightly, crooked, discoloured or uneven teeth are visible. This is the number of teeth that will need crowning / veneering.
8 is certainly enough unless you have a very wide smile, if you’re unsure, send me a photograph of your smile using the contact form on this website and I’ll let you know exactly what would be our opinion. However, the choice is always yours in the end.

  6. Hi, I have just seen my dentist who has recommended having about 10 crowns to fix my overbite and general appearance of my front teeth – my bottom teeth are also a little crooked. Please could you give me a general price for this procedure and whether you advise that this will be an effective way of getting a ‘perfect teeth’ look which I would like. Many thanks.

    • Dear Cj,
Certainly, 10 crowns would fix the overbite and correct your smile. The key is to make sure that the crowns are “all ceramic” (metal free) and made from emax or zirconia, for the best results possible.
This procedure in our clinic needs one visit of 5 working days or two 1 day visits with a couple of weeks between them.
The investment is £297 x 10 = £2970. We have no hidden or extra charges and the crowns are fully guaranteed for 5 years.
      Does that help?

    • Hi Alan,
It’s quite simple – the cost is £297 per tooth – all inclusive with no hidden extras.
So that would be 12 x £297 = £3564, and you’d need 2 one day visits to us with 2-3 weeks between them to complete the treatment.
(temporary veneers are provided free of charge in-between)
      Does that help?

  7. Hello,
I like the look of your website. I am 77 years old fit and well with discoloured (yellowing ) teeth and am considering ten crowns all for the “smiling” area. Is this possible? My teeth are quite well shaped but it is the colour that is annoying me. Are crowns better than veneers ? – and how long would the visit need to be flying from Birmingham UK ? I would quite like to visit for a week to see the country. Would you be able to pick me up at the airport and could you arrange modest accommodation for one man. I hope this is not too long winded ! and am looking forward to your reply. Kindest regards.

    Chris Schoning

p.s. I would prefer NOT to be quoted in your questions and answers. Thankyou. C.S.

    • Dear Chris,
Certainly – crowns protect the teeth as opposed to veneers which are just a front-facing cosmetic feature.
For 10 crowns in one visit we’d need 7days with you due to the dental lab time involved making the crowns. Otherwise you’re welcome to split it up into 2 separate visits, with an overnight stay on each visit with a couple of weeks between them.
Airport transfers are included and here’s a list of local accommodation options that we could arrange for you: http://dentalholiday.co.uk/dental-hotel-accommodation.html

      Does that help?

  8. Hello, I have visited the dentist in the uk and enquiries about vaneers as I would love a Hollywood smile, however I have a missing tooth at the top and my teeth have distorted over time to compensate. The dentist has suggested that vaneers wouldn’t be appropriate but filling the gap instead?

  9. Hello I am interested in having veneers in my upper front teeth. They are slightly crooked and unsymmetrical. I also have a crown that the gym has receded from. So I am thinking 8 upper veneers and replacement crown. My front teeth are worn down and I have filling at the back due to biting down on pens over the years which I have now stopped. My question is if I get a veneer in my teeth and I need the filling replaced behind the tooth is this going to be a problem?

    • Dear Denise,

Thank you for your comment, I´ve wrote you an email as well. When we place veneers on the teeth we make sure that the teeth are healthy enough and prepared for the veneers. So the fillings won´t be a problem.

      I hope this helps

      Kind regards

      Nika
